The Day Dresses Women did not allow the sun to touch their skin. Having color to your skin meant that you either had mixed blood, or were so poor that you had to labor in your own fields.

Dresses were not all one piece. Washing dresses did not happen often. Outer garments were "spot" cleaned. Ladies wore under garments to collect sweat. Aprons were made of cambric (Stiff starched linen) to protect their working clothes, and of silk and velvet to protect their fancy clothes. Applying a fresh clean collar, cuffs, undersleeves, and an apron would make your old dress appear new and/or clean.

LADIES UNDER THINGS
These really are important!

#PAT503 (S,M,L) French Corset (delete boning across top for C.W.) You can not get the "hour glass" look of the Civil War wearing a bra. Bras cause you to have a "shelf" effect. Corsets create the smooth line. Besides, once you are laced into a proper fitting C.W. corset, your back and shoulders do not ache....$9.00

#PAT608 (All) Hoop and fancy tucked Petticoat...$10.50 You need both. A hoop gets all of that skirt material away from entangling in your legs when you walk. The over petticoat smooths out the hoop lines (Which never should be seen)The under petticoat keeps you decent. (read "Drawers")

#PAT505 (All) Drawers - crotchless, but full and overlapping for modesty. Definitely a "must have" when headed for the ladies room. (It is near impossible to fight your way thru all of the waistbands - under & over petticoats, hoop, etc...) ...$9.00
