VESTS

Military or Civilian, A man wearing just a shirt on the upper half of his body was indecent.
To give you a better understanding, a modern day parallel would be a man wearing his long underwear in public.

THINKING LIKE SOMEONE IN THE 1860's: If you are doing a military impression, in a well supplied location, by all means, go for the "matching 3-piece suit". If you are doing a civilian impression, avoid the "matching 3-piece suit" look. The reason is as follows: If you were poor and could only afford one bolt of wool to make clothing from this year, then you had no choice but to make you pants and coat and vest from the same material. If you were wealthy, and could afford more than one bolt... possibly even a woven plaid or stripe, you would show off your wealth by wearing different fabrics in your pants, vest, and coat.

ALL OF OUR VESTS come with:
1 breast pocket
2 low pockets
Straps to tie or buckle at back waist (we do not have vest buckles at this time)

MILITARY VESTS:
These are normally made with
for UNION: Navy Blue wool front, Brown polished cotton lining and back
for INVALID CORPS: Sky Blue wool front, Canvas back, muslin lining
for CONFEDERATES: Gray wool front, Canvas back, muslin lining
Pocket trim matches the front wool / Strap matches the back material

Provide: Actual Chest & Waist Measurement (at Belly Button) - (not modern clothing size)
